My Christmas Babies 2012 |
Merry Christmas y'all! (A few days late! I'm sorry, had way too much going on to post this earlier!)
Anyway, I thought I would share with you today, what Christmas means to me. I'd also love to hear about YOUR Holiday traditions in the comments section below! :)
I should start by saying that (controversial comment coming, BE READY!) we don't believe in Santa in our household. (Insert outrage and shock here.) That isn't because we are Grinches, it's mostly because culturally speaking, we were raised to make Christmas about Christ, family and tradition. I'll be honest, it's been tough for my kids growing in up in the good ol' U.S of A and having to keep THAT a secret. A couple times, unfortunately, they have whispered the truth to a friend or so, much to my chagrin. I have explained to them that everyone is free to believe what they want, and that they have no business telling anyone what they know about Santa. Sigh. Thankfully, not too much damage has been done, though I've had to apologize profusely (to rightfully upset parents) a few times throughout the years.
We also celebrate Christmas, like many Central Americans do, on Christmas Eve. My mom made Guatemalan Tamales and then the kids stayed up until midnight to wait to open their gifts! We make sure every year that we speak about the Greatest Gift of all, and we share stories about past Christmases and lifetimes. This Christmas season has been tougher than others, due to the state of my health, but I am extremely blessed and grateful for all God has given us. You see, Christmas to me is far more than buying the best gifts, or having the most awesomely decorated house. So today, I hope that you all had a very Merry Christmas; and my prayer is that you might have a blessed New Year!
