Homemade Caramel Sauce Recipe

Hey y'all!  So a few days ago, I posted the following picture to Instagram with the caption: "Did you know that homemade only has three ingredients? Who wants the recipe?" I promise, you will be blown away with how simple this really is!

So as promised, here is my recipe for homemade Caramel Sauce!

Ingredients:

-1c Raw Organic Sugar

-6tbsp Unsalted Butter

-1/2c Heavy Cream

- 1tsp Room Temp Water (optional)

Method:
(Total time: Roughly about 5-8minutes)

(Refer to images below for visuals)

1. Place the sugar in a cold deep sauce pan (mixture will eventually bubble a great deal, so the deeper, the safer) and place over medium heat.  Add the tsp of water to get the sugar going.  You will need to whisk quickly throughout the entire process to help ensure a smooth outcome.

PLEASE NOTE: Sugar will go from caramelizing to BURNT in no time flat! I say this because it's happened way too many times to me!  So please, if the phone rings, if your kids are fighting, you need to let the dog in the house, or you are distracted by your awesome iPhone, I BEG you, don't place the sugar on the stove. =/  ALSO, you will have zero time for seeking ingredients as this all happens very quickly, so have everything RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!!

Ok, so anyways, the sugar will begin to cook down, and it will first look like image 2, then all the sugar crystals melt (it will look like 3) and disappear.

At this point, remove the pan from the burner.  After only a few seconds, add the butter (image 4) and continue whisking quickly.  You will notice the mixture rising and bubbling.  This is normal and it should look like image 5.

The moment the butter is completely melted into the mixture, slowly swirl in the heavy cream whisking swiftly the entire time.  6. The mixture will bubble even more but very quickly smooth out.

As soon as the cream is fully incorporated, remove from pan and pour into a sweet mason jar! Please handle with care as it will still be VERY hot!

Add some cute twine and perhaps a label and you have some homemade caramel sauce to drizzle into everything from ice cream to cupcakes, such as my very own Apple Pie Cupcakes with Caramel Buttercream! :)

ENJOY!

xoxo

  5. I'm curious if you know the "shelf life" of this product? Also, could it be "preserved" in a hot water bath? Thank you.
