Pumpkin Spice Lattes and Fall Sign Tutorial

Hey y'all! Who loves Fall? I DO! It's actually my favorite time of the year. Here's a fun fall-inspired sign and if you are still with me at the end, I'll maybe even have the free file for you! ;)

My bloggy buddies and I have once again joined forces to bring you 14 Home Decor Projects, I figured I'd kick off Fall with my project, but make sure you check out all of the other awesome ones for more project inspiration. The projects are listed at the bottom of my post, just click on each name and it will take you to each blog!

Since it's officially Pumpkin Spice Latte season, I thought I'd share this fun tutorial!

**Though I was compensated for this post in product and/or monetarily, all opinions, ideas and comments are 100% my own. Please note: this post may also contain affiliate links.**

I actually designed this sign a few years back for a Home Show Make it Take it Workshop, but I thought I'd share the project supplies list and file (free!) with you guys now!

For this project you will need the following:
First, sand, clean and stain your board and allow it to fully dry. Once it's dry, hit it with some of the spray lacquer listed above. To make a stencil, simply cut out your vinyl and instead of removing the background when you weed it, remove the letters, leaving the background and making sure to leave the letter centers. Use some transfer tape to transfer your stencil onto your board. Make sure to burnish your stencil before adding your paint so as to not get any bleed through. To get the ombre look, just pour out some paint/stain onto your palette in an ombre look and drag your foam brush straight across it to get the effect. Make sure to remove your stencil while the paint is still partially wet so as to not lift it.

Alternatively, you can stain or paint the board and use vinyl for the lettering like these gals did at the Home Show:

Either method looks great! Just make sure if you're going the colorful board and vinyl route, that you seal your Unicorn SPiT before adding your letters. You can do this by giving a quick spray with the lacquer I listed above, making sure it's fully dry before adding the letters using transfer tape or it might lift up your stain or paint. I personally love both looks but went for the stained board in a dark walnut, then lacquer, then the stencil and paint.

As promised, here's the file in jpg format...just right click, save to your drive, then open up Design Space and upload it. You can find a video and post on how to import your own designs into DS HERE.

Tell me, have you had a Pumpkin Spice Latte this season already? I will let in on a little secret...I don't drink coffee! I KNOW! IT'S CRAZY, BUT I DON'T! I'm a Tea girl. Tea is life. ;)

Don't forget to check out the other 13 posts and visit my bloggy friends.
Here's that list:

Happy Fall, y'all!

My passion for books and the projects that come of it...

It's no secret that I am a very dedicated Bibliophile...or that I LOVE both the ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) and ToG (Throne of Glass) series by Sarah J. Maas.

**Though I was compensated for this post in product and/or monetarily, all opinions, ideas and comments are 100% my own. Please note: this post may also contain affiliate links.**

It's also no secret that I LOVE my Cricut Air 2. ::Smile::

I feel like the majority of my crafting these days consists of Cricut projects, if only because the machine makes my projects so much easier and way more fun!

Being in love with the above book series, I decided to some some projects in their honor! I also posted them to my store, the first one is sold out, but I have a few left of the others!

I had some boards left over from some of my workshops and decide to put them to good use. For this one which was inspired by a quote from the second book of the ACOTAR series, called "A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF), I stained the board in purple, as the book often describes purple to be one of the colors often visible in the Court of Dreams. It's one of my favorite quotes and I just love the part of the book in which it's found. I used about three different custom fonts that I downloaded onto my computer awhile back. This actually uploads said fonts onto Design Space (DS) so you can access them when designing. You can also use any old cartridges that you may have, just upload them into your DS account and they will be there forever!

For this one, inspired by book four of the ToG series, called "Queen of Shadows" (QoS), I designed in PicMonkey, online, then saved the .jpg and uploaded it onto DS. Make sure that when you do this, you design on a transparent canvas to make it easier when you upload onto DS.

In honor of the quote, I stained the board in a galaxy-inspired motif, and made sure to add some shining stars to my design. Making a stencil is super easy! Cut your vinyl stencil, then weed away the letters , making sure to leave the centers of letters such as 'a', 'e', etc. Then, simply use some transfer tape to transfer the stencil onto the board. I would recommend sealing the stain in before attempting to stencil or to even transfer the stencil. Make sure your stencil has no air bubbles. You can use a scraper tool or even a credit card to smooth it out. Always seal your work when completely done, also.

I used the same design for this sweet fitted t-shirt I made for myself! I do sell stuff over on Etsy, too!

I used some glitter Cricut iron-on vinyl to enhance the theme behind the quote. I even let my son photograph me in it! It's my new favorite t-shirt!

Do YOU have a favorite author or book series?

Home Alone 2 inspired Holiday Sign and 24 Holiday Movie Crafts and Recipes!

Christmas Movies are the best, right?!

Y'all. I, along with some of my amazing Bloggy friends are happy to bring you, "25 Christmas Movie Crafts and Recipes"! Yup. Crafts and Recipes all inspired by our favorite Holiday movies!

If you are following along in the Blog Hop, you are likely coming to me from Emily's blog.

My project is a sign from my FAVORITE Holiday movie EVER, "Home Alone 2, Lost in New York". I know, I know...most people don't love sequels, but THIS sequel is every bit as hilarious and wonderful as the first movie!

**Though this post may contain sponsored material for which I was compensated in product and/or monetarily, all opinions, ideas and thoughts are 100% my own. This post also contains affiliate links, so should you choose to click over and make a purchase, I will receive a tiny portion as a commission. Also, I'll love you forever.**

I thought I'd turn my favorite quote and scene from the movie into a wooden Holiday sign so of course, I pulled out my favorite GREEN paints and stains, and my trusty Cricut Air 2!

Seriously, isn't that just the best sign EVER?! :) Here's how I did it!

I started out by taking a pine board and staining it with my favorite Stain+Finish from CeCe Caldwell's Paints in Kukui. It's important to let the stain fully dry and cure for at least 24hrs, otherwise the vinyl might not stick to the wood properly and you will get bleeding when applying the paint.

I uploaded a Holiday font into Cricut Design Space (font is called "I love Christmas"), then cut some vinyl out for a stencil, I used regular indoor vinyl, not permanent or outdoor vinyl.

Instead of weeding around the letters like I normally do, I weeded the letters OUT, leaving the background for the stencil. I transferred the vinyl with some transfer tape, making sure to really smooth the vinyl down onto the stained wood.

I used CeCe again, this time their chalk+clay paint in "Simply White". Make sure you use a good stencil brush and stencil in a circular motion to reduce the risk of bleeding under the stencil.

I spruced it up with some Unicorn SPiT in their new Sparkling Stains line! In person, those cute string lights just sparkle away, when the light hits the sign!

I sealed it all up with my favorite wax, Daddy Van's Clear Wax in Lavender.

I'm in love with it! Make sure you check out all of the other posts in our awesome Blog Hop!

Each blogger will lead you to the next, so be sure to finish the hop all the way through to the end for all the Christmas movie goodies!

These are a few of my favorite GREEN things! Evey's Holiday Gift Guide!

Hey y'all! IT'S ALMOST CHRISTMAS (or Earth Day, or Mother's Day...or whatever day it is that you decide to go GREEN)!

****(POST IS UPDATED YEAR ROUND TO REFLECT TOP DEALS ON THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS!)***

For some of us, sweaters and jewelry are not the best option (though greatly appreciated). Dare I say it? Some of us don't even like chocolate. (I know I'm odd. I do like DARK and very bitter chocolate, though!)

Some of us long for...well, other types of gifts.

Some of us want to DIY, and DIY GREEN!

Behold, The DIY Holiday GREEN Gift Guide for the Fab Furniture Flippin'™, hardcore DIY'ing, Power-Tool-wielding, Eco-Friendly Momma in your life! (Ladies, if you are like me and crave such things, then feel free to just send this post right on over to your family via email so they can see EXACTLY what to get you!)

First up, my most favorite earth-friendly Stain+Finish in the world:

CeCe Caldwell's Stain+Finish is not only a natural stain, but actually contains a finish all in one and comes packaged in (yup, you guessed it) eco-friendly, recycled plastic containers and in five gorgeous colors. All of CeCe's products, including her bright and gorgeous (and truly all natural) Chalk+Clay Paints are amazing. Their stain+finish is no exception, and definitely my favorite stain product on the market. Lately, I've taken to their brand new color, "Beech Nut Gray". It's super dreamy alone but mix in a touch of their "Kukui" color and the combination makes me downright heady. ::smile:: You can order their products through any of their incredible retailers. Just input your zip code HERE and find the nearest one to you. You can also purchase it online through any of the awesome online retailers such as Doozie's Corner.
.
Here's an example of it in action:

Next up, my favorite paint in the entire world:

The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co. makes me smile every time I use it. Why? Well, for starters, it's a true milk paint and actually made from casein protein and earth pigments! Also, I'm secretly a shabby chic, chippy-loving fool! Nothing makes me happier than chippy furniture painted in OFMP. I promise you, it's super easy to mix and to use. The rich earth pigments are just brilliant and you can even thin it out to use it as a stain. It's free of harmful polymers, latex and VOCs. It's also 100% biodegradable. This gorgeous paint was actually awarded a USDA Biobased certification. Just recently, OFMP came up with a solution for a big problem facing fruit trees, go check that out HERE. I could sit here and talk OFMP ALL day, but I won't. You can read more on how to use it, what it is and a bit of its incredibly green and awesome history HERE. You can buy it directly from them online, via phone or through any of their dealers, both nationally and internationally. If you are interested in a discount on your first order, make sure to head over to the Official Question and Answer OFMP Group on FB!

***UPDATE, APRIL 22, 2018***
DURING ALL OF NEXT WEEK (4/27/2018-4/27/2018), please take full advantage of our "EARTH DAY IS EVERYDAY" special!
