DIY Stenciled Valance, Bulletin Board and Cutting Edge Stencils Giveaway!

Hi y'all!  I've been busy working on the boys' nautical room redo!  The folks over at Cutting Edge Stencils sent me their awesome Fossil Fish stencil to try out and use in the boys' Nautical room redo! I absolutely love Cutting Edge Stencils and even got to go on a tour of their awesome factory a while back with some bloggy friends!

I decided I wanted to make a valance for the small window over the boys' bunk bed, as well as a fossil fish bulletin board to hang above their desk.

I used the leftover fabric from the curtains I had already made.  For the valance, I simply sewed a two-inch opening at the top for the curtain rod to fit in, then stenciled my two fish onto it.

The stencil was so easy to use!  I have said before that I love CES' stencils, and this one was no exception.  I taped it down and made sure I used the method of stenciling that Janna taught me herself.  I used a circular motion with the stencil brush provided by CES.  You can see this method in the below video.

For the Bullentin Board, I took two dollar store cork squares and covered them in drop cloth, then stenciled the fish onto them, as well.

I absolutely love the way it looks!

I feel like I should name the fish...
Well, guess what!?  Today, I get to give one of YOU up to $50 towards a CES Stencil!

Stenciled IKEA Organizer

Hi y'all!  A few weeks ago, I went to one of my favorite thrift shops (cue Macklemore) and found this piece for $2. From what I was told, it is a discontinued IKEA piece. I knew what wanted to do WITH it, but didn't know exactly what to do TO it.  Its previous owner had painted it white so essentially, it was primed for me.

The first thing I did was clean it out.  It was GROSS!  I pulled out my "can of never-ending paint", Driftwood Grey by Glidden, and gave it a couple coats.  Side note, this paint can has been used on about five projects thus far and it never seems to end.  Back to my organizer.  It sat that way in my family room for approximately 3 weeks.  Yes, 3 weeks.  It just didn't look finished to me but I was unsure how to finish it.  Then, I went to my awesome Blogger's Day Out at Cutting Edge Stencils and came home with some pretty cool stencils, including the one I had used on my tote bag during the tour.

Lily Scroll Stencil by CES
Inspiration hit me and I decided to stencil my mini chest of drawers.  I started with the top, dead center.  Then randomly added various parts of the stencil to each individual drawer.

I love the outcome!  I especially love knowing all my paints, brushes, paint markers, Sharpies and other supplies are finally ORGANIZED and in one place!  I can now actually find them when I need them.

What do y'all think?  Isn't she pretty?!

Blogger's Day Out at Cutting Edge Stencils

Source: The Shed

(Left to Right: Laura of The Shed, Me, Kelly of Eclectically Vintage, Miriam of Hometalk, Jenny of Days of Chalk and Chocolate, Jen of City Farmhouse, Laura of Finding Home, Janna of Cutting Edge Stencils.)

Hi y'all!  Last Friday, I got to do something REALLY awesome!  I spent the day at Cutting Edge Stencils' headquarters with some awesome Hometalk Bloggers! Getting to meet these ladies in REAL life was pretty cool.

Laura and me

I was especially excited to get to hug my sweet friend, Laura in real life! We pretty much giggled at everything throughout the entire event together. It was so much fun!

We got a really cool tour of CES and we got to meet Janna and Greg, the owners of this awesome business!  Janna and Greg both have an extensive background in decorative painting, and are very talented and super creative.  It was such an amazing experience to see the company through their eyes.  They are very passionate about what they do!  I really liked their stencils before, but now I'm smitten with THEM as well!  It was also cool to meet Michelle, who does all of their social media work! We had been tweeting and Instagramming (is that a word?!) back and forth for awhile, so it was cool to see the face behind the tweets! She was truly a sweetheart.

Janna and Michelle
We also got some demonstrations and tips on how to properly stencil both on a tote bag and on a real wall!

Here's Janna using their brand new "Charlotte" stencil, giving us the proper technique and demo.

Laura was the first one up!

Thank you Cutting Edge Stencils and Hometalk for hosting such a fun and informative event!  A special thanks to both companies for my awesome new swag! :) You will all be seeing lots of fun stenciling thanks to all the cool new stencils I got!

Make sure you check out all the gorgeous stencils over at Cutting Edge Stencils and take full advantage of their tutorial videos!
